With a 13 A foot size, custom built Russells are the only way for me to go for field boots (I love 'em) My Mountain boots are Danner GoreTex/Leather, and are really good also

Russell Imperials with aggressive Vibram lug soles for the desert and elk country of AZ during dry weather. Danner leather/gore tex insulated for elk otherwise. The Russells are 25+ years old and on their third set of soles. The rock around here just grinds the lugs off chasing desert quail but the prime leather has another generation to go.

Budget forced me to try a pair of Rocky boots one elk season. That was a joke! By noon of the first day I was walking in moccassins as the molded on sole had disintegrated and I was walking on the insoles the last couple miles back to the truck.

I've had good luck with some of the Cabelas brand boots as well as the Danners. For non-rocky conditions, I like the FullDraw Cabelas boots. They are light, GoreTex lined and flexible soled. For rockier terrain I like some Danner GTX's that I found somewhere. I also bought some tall zip up boots from Cabelas one wet SD phez season. They are comfy for flat walking but not for hills.

nobody has mentioned L L Bean hunting boots. I have used the from NJ to CO in all kinds of weather for 56 yrs. Tried others but always came back to LL Beans. I use orthotic insert in them.

Are those Russells waterproof? They look very comfortable. I ordered the ones that you can have right away and sent them back. THey were a different size and looked a little flimsy for the money.

Buy AIGLE Parcours ISO it is hand made from natural rubber and inside you have a 4,5 MM thick neopreme insolation.
This is of course if they are avalable where you live.
It is the best here in Belgium,I use them intensively and I have tray many others, no better then these.

I LOVE my Filson boots, not inexpensive but I have had them for years, about 6 now and still going strong. They provide good support, ample traction and are very comfortable.

The South Forty Bird Shooter is a lighter made boot for warm conditions....nothing flimsy about them. My current pair is going on 5 years and look almost as good as new but I'm a stickler for saddle soap and leather treatment.

Russells are as water proof as an all leather boot can be...if hunting in wet conditions it pays to keep them treated with a product such as Obenauf's.

Second on the Filson Uplanders, I have two pair I alternate. If it's muddy or wet I use Lacrosse Rubber boots.

I tried ordering a pair of Russells, Ultra-light Grouse North Forty Southland Bobsoles or whatever they were called, a few years back. I waited until I could get measured by them at the Vintagers where Russell had a booth. I was measured by the company president. After the 6-8 week wait I got the most ill fitting pair of boots I ever put on my feet. They took them back and were not interested in trying it a second time to do it right.

I really liked the original Cabela Brittany's with the Kangaroo skin upper. Unfortunately the abrasive Big Blue Stem and Indian native grasses of these tall grass prairies would shred the uppers in one season. I switched to Cabela new Brittany with the cordoray uppers and after two seasons so far so good.
