Eightbore is spot on, if not stepped chambers you are only talking about 1/8", use the longer hulls...if you really are worried you should be able to fit nearly any 2 7/8" load in a 2 5/8" long hull if you roll crimp them. The bonus is pressure generally is reduced by doing this.

I had a rather interesting person on the east coast make an 8 to ten set of adapters....said he turned them out of bar stock. They are not slit but need to be:(
