I recently sold a 2" Arrieta Model 871 that was No.1 of a pair with 29" barrels, a weight of 6lbs 1oz, and a 15 1/4" straight stock.

When I purchased the gun, I also had the chokes adjusted to 0.008 and 0.014. The person who bought the gun is using it for it's intended purpose, i.e., grouse and woodcock shooting in MI and MN.

I enjoyed the gun; however, a flat of shells is $120 and frankly I got tired of roll crimping - my main interest now is clays shooting.

I have owned two guns under 5.5 lbs and determined that lightness is only one factor and not the most important. I own neither now.

The lighter the gun gets, the harder it can be to shoot it well.

Balance is critical whether one is looking at a light gun or a heavy gun.

For me 5.5-5.75lb is about as light as I like to or can shoot. But that is me, others can shoot lighter comfortably, or prefer even heavier. While a light gun is a pleasant diversion, I carry a 6lb 16ga nine times out of ten when hunting.

Lightness like all extremes has its pitfalls

I think a man should get what a man wants. If a 2" 12g floats your boat, get one.

Funny, I was shooting 1 3/4" 5/8 oz Aguilla shells out of my 7 1/2 lb 12g Fox today at sporting clays. It whacks them pretty well. I'd use that load for dove or quail if I ever got the energy up to lug it around.

I certainly understand about the recoil.
The Skimin & Wood 2" sold by Abercrombie was proofed for 1 oz loads.
Game Bore 24gms loads were procured in Brit 7&6.
Stout recoil when shot for POI. But is not a Target or fixed position gun, it's a gun for walking or smaller stature shooters as it was originally marketed.-Dick

I love being able to one-hand my Chas. Hellis 2" 12bore when going through the tough stuff in New England while chasing grouse and woodcock. IIRC, 5# 9oz....
