Unmarked on barrels, but I'm attaching barrel flat pics and pictures of the water table. Looks like German, but these sure aren't german markings. Thoughts on what this might be please.

PS. Blowing these up looks like JJ. Co. NYC and SOC IT VERA, as well as the number 12 in a Diamond.

Proofmarks look to be Italian.

Yes Italian proofmarks, also italian inscription Soc. It. Vera, maybe Societa Italiana Vera, could mean Genuine Italian Society or similar; or maybe Vera is the name of the Italian company that produced/sold/exported the gun (I don't speak Italian; but can curse a bit).
The other insription seems to be of American importer, JJ. Co. of New York City (JJ.Co.NYC also found on surplus military bolt rifles).
With kind regards,
Jani

JJ CO INC
John Jovino Co, Inc
5 Centre Market
NYC, NY 10013

The store exterior was in the movie, "Serpico". They were an importer in the late 60's.

Societa Italiana Vera
"True Italian Society" seems to have been an exporter.
There were a lot of small makers in the 60's and 70's in Gardone.

So, what you have would be known as a "guild gun".

Found a date code that shows it was made in 1955. Don't know if that further complicates or simplifies who the maker might have been.

Great pic find Peter. Is he a relative of yours??? It's just amazing how many "importers" there were. It would be nice if someone composed, or began composing a list, which would be a daunting but worthwhile task.

Cute cool

Turns out there is a Wiki page on this dealer / importer.

Daunting is not the word. More like doing Augeas' stables.
