Yes, jOe, it is possible to blue stainless, but, it doesn't surprise me in the least that you would be ignorant of it. Swedish Caprinus (earlier) and Flodman (later) guns with stainless barrels were first iron plated, then blued. Sometimes, if the customer wished, they were left bright. Ditto both treatments on the Darnes with optional stainless steel barrels. Charlins were offered with a stainless option on barrels and receiver metal, but, the only example I've ever seen sits in a jar of water in the Bruchet shop in St. Etienne, and was left bright.
I doubt any of the Darnes sold in this country were ever sold with that option, although it was offered in the 1970s by James Wayne.
Early Remington 700s had a stainless barrel option that was hot blued. My Dad has his black chromed with good results.
