deiswampentaperflarendodle!
tut, I'd let that blank age another three years or so before I'd make a fullstock from it! I don't trust moisture meters, nor most wood hawks, just the time since I acquired the wood.

Probably not a bad idea at all. I've got time, I'm retired and not in a rush at all. Thanks for the advise. I'll still post pictures at a later time.

Just took a few pics after misting the wood. I think it would be pretty nice on that Remington: One side: Other side: PS. Now I'll just put it away for a few more years. Double PS. That bit of sapwood isn't a problem, the blank is very very large.

When I built M/L guns we used to say, "If ya added a stripe on this end, you'd have to push one off the other!" Should be a great blank in a few years...

Am I alone in not caring much for Mannlicher-type forends on anything other than a Mannlicher? I have yet to see one that tripped my aesthetic trigger. The 1903/05/08 Mannlicher-Schoenauers I have owned were works of art, but the stock style loses something when translated onto a Mauser/Springfield/Winchester/Remington,etc. I suspect it has everything to do with what Mark described in an earlier post, plus the bulkier lines of everything other than a Mannlicher action. Depth of the common actions vs. the Mannlicher causing extra thickness in the heigth of the stock before it tapers to the nose cap? Certainly just my opinion, but am curious if anyone else feels the same way.

Maybe a WW1 era Mauser
I learn something every day, and a lot of times it's that what I learned the day before was wrong
