I had a loose rib repaired on a set of stainless steel barrels. Who has had good experience having these type barrels blacked?

I sent a Beretta barrel to Cole Gusmithing to fix the rib and black them again. They have the rib fixed but told me they are waiting untill they have enough barrels to black to do a batch. I don't want to wait anymore.

Yeah, it seems an oxymoron.
But smokeless means that it smokes less and stainless means that it stains less.

Happy to hear Rich is bluing your barrels. The last set he did for me he had reservations about doing the older Beretta barrels because of problems getting the correct solution. My second set was slightly duller than the first but still a very nice job. Rich and his crew really try to please. I hope you have as much sucess as I had.

These go on a well used target gun SO5 - post-Ithaca era with the essentially unengraved shiney nickled sidelocks. It has a GSquared recoil reducer so it is hardly original or "beautiful". So a little duller or shinier are both OK.

Yes, jOe, it is possible to blue stainless, but, it doesn't surprise me in the least that you would be ignorant of it. Swedish Caprinus (earlier) and Flodman (later) guns with stainless barrels were first iron plated, then blued. Sometimes, if the customer wished, they were left bright. Ditto both treatments on the Darnes with optional stainless steel barrels. Charlins were offered with a stainless option on barrels and receiver metal, but, the only example I've ever seen sits in a jar of water in the Bruchet shop in St. Etienne, and was left bright.
I doubt any of the Darnes sold in this country were ever sold with that option, although it was offered in the 1970s by James Wayne.
Early Remington 700s had a stainless barrel option that was hot blued. My Dad has his black chromed with good results.
