Cabelas Manufrance Robust Ideal

I have seen Manufrance Robusts and Manufrance Ideals but I have never seen a Manufrance Robust Ideal.

"Robust Ideal" is stamped on the bottom of the receiver and can be seen in the lower left hand picture of the ad.

Best,

Mike

How bout that? Pushbutton forend and "I grew out of it" graft. Don't see barrel stamp to match Pete's example?

The Cabelas gun is a model 280. The one on Geoffory's site is a model 286, made in 1953 with serial number 5679. So if you get the serial number of the Cabelas gun, you should get some idea as to date. That 16ga is nice for the price, except for the buttstock graft.

Here is another example:

The pushbutton forend is particular to the guns that have ejectors like the one above. Cabela's should say so.

The gun has a 15 3/4" LOP. Remove the 2" graft and most could shoot that gun. Add a nice 1" leather covered recoil pad and still more would be happy. A lot of potential with that gun for a shooter. I just find the step down in the barrel chamber area to be a big distraction. Still would be a fun gun to shoot and for not much over a grand a decent bargain. But it still French, ten lines of proof that tell you very little. The French proof house must have been paid by the letter.

I really like French shotguns, they're usually excellent quality, typically very light weight, and they're normally easy on your pocket book (unless the're a Darne). An upland hunters dream gun!

The Robust-Ideal was started in 1938 as a cost cutting measure, taking the monoblock barrel construction which is a Robust feature onto an Ideal frame. I don't know when it was abandoned, likely during WWII.
The Ideal has been made with chopper lump barrels since 1907.
In 1939, the RI was made in grades 268, 274, 280, 286 and 292 with prices going from 1600FF to 3200FF, while the ideal appeared in grades 308 to 368 going from 2400 to 15,000FF!!
Best regards,
WC
