That gun was made in East Germany. The 201E was the next to the lowest grade OU (that was the 200E). Chokes are basically improved cylinder/improved mod--pretty good for hunting. Barrels just a hair over 26", which is a bit short according to the current trend, but not bad. In 20ga, I'd say somewhere in the $2500 range, give or take a bit.

It is 1963 vs 1988 12 ga vs 20 ga.,30 inch vs 26 inch and Pistol grip vs english straight stock. I have been told the 20 ga commands 10 % more. The 1963 does have a little better engraving.
I will go by the gun shop and see what kind of deal I can get on the Merkel 201E.
