"Secret" eating places? The 'biker bar's parking lot was chock full of motorcycles - not much room for a car at all and I'd be damned if I'd try to squirm my Volvo in between the bikes

My Jap junker was not damaged when I returned to it after my clam dinner. But a Volvo? I won't make you any promises. At my advanced age, I still have a Harley at home, but my new truck does not have a "My other vehicle is a HOG" bumper sticker.

Volvos are pretty well despised by most hard-core bikers. Apparantly the thinking is that Volvo drivers take many ill-advised chances believing their car is indestructible or indomitable, putting others (bikers especially) at risk to life and limb. I have been the innocent recipient of many a flying finger from passing bikers...

Will be interesting to see what they've cooked up for the shoot this weekend. Have shot at Rock Mountain in the past, It's a pretty fun place to shoot as well. Makes for a nice combo as Hausman's has more hunter targets in the woods. Rock Mountain makes great use of its elevation changes with lots of shots down hill as well as some high flyers off the cliffs. Looking forward to it. Should be a pretty good variety.

Last weekend's Endless Mountains shoot was great fun. We had perfect weather Saturday, but some heavy rain on Sunday. Still, everyone got in their two rounds. As always, both Hausman's and Rock Mountain extended great hospitality and you can tell they are run by people who are shooters themselves. Results are posted on the Rock Mountain website.
A lot of work has been done to the Hidden Hollow course since the Great Northeast SXS shoot, and I understand more improvements are in the works.
The most exciting development at Hausman's is they have cleared a cliffside and are installing some high bird traps.
Currently, they are able throw a flurry of 40 yard high targets off the mountain and over the heads of the shooters below. The birds don't float down to the shooters, they zip overhead, similar to the high tower targets replicating driven pheasants that are popular in England. I understand there may be a tower added to the mountain later to throw even higher targets. It looks like there is plenty of room for pairs or even a squad of shooters.
40 yards is about the highest targets you can find in the country, and if they add the tower, they might be the very highest you can find at any club in the U.S. I got a chance to take a trial run at it, and it was some of the most addictive shooting I've every tried.
The new high bird field is a work in progess and not fully open to the public yet, but I'm hoping it will be availble at next year's Great Northeast SXS shoot. Hope to learn more from Ernie and the crew at the upcoming Vintage Cup.
