I bought an Ithaca Flues waterfowling gun. Traditional pass shooting gun. 32", XF,XF The barrel walls are thicker than any double I own. What pressure parameters were these guns made for? I'm thinking early smokeless, heavy loads, large lead shot.
But, What pressures?
I am starting to reload for early goose, and I think she needs a workout.

Out there doing it best I can.

I only shoot low pressure loads in my Fluzies, but a thick barreled waterfowling gun, if it has steel barrels, might be OK with higher pressure shells. Whatever the barrels are like, the frame was designed for the lower pressure loads, and Flues frames are prone to crack. If you're shooting geese over decoys, low pressure loads should work just fine...Geo

When I got my Flues model I asked around on a couple forums and the general answer I got was that loads should be kept at or under 8,000 psi. When I looked in a few loading manuals Hodgdon Longshot powder gave the best velocities for loads under that pressure cap. I never got around to loading for it though. Hope that helps.

I have a 10ga flues. I have used it for goose. I use the low pressure ammo from RST. http://www.rstshells.com/rst_classic_shotshells_shotshells.htm
I don't go often enough to justify reloading for it.

About the barrels. I regularly measure the barrel walls on my guns. Ithaca barrels are usually on the thick side. This true from the Crass through the Flues models. NID maybe as well, I do not currently own one.
