Jack, from the outside looking in, it would seem that King would have a handle on the issue more than we would. Yes, it pits hunter against hunter, which is how self-enforcement starts. If magnums are indeed the problem, then why would a magnum shooter have a problem curtailing them if it means the end of shooting altogether? It seems some common sense is in order.
I think it was King, or maybe Ted, who said a while back "we're not at war against these birds" or words to that effect. That is so true. It's so easy to get caught up in mustbagalimit/bigger/better/newer/magnumitis, that it's hard to remember why we're out there in the first place. The world is troubled enough; let's not be our own worst enemy.

Kingsley, I have no real response to this post as your post has no logical merit. Gun haters and anti-hunters will keep up the attack until we actually stand together. It is there goal to segment us until we are all at each other's throats. When I first read your post, my initial response was that the "King of Brown Piles" was at it again. I still stand by that initial response.
Your argument is Bull$hit,
Loren Wilcox In King's defense, I think that's totally uncalled for, and isn't exactly the epitome of "standing together."

Here we go again!!! I don't like Kingsley's politics. I think his use of "King" in itself is a prime example of his elitist attitude. He thinks he knows what others should do. I know what others should not do. And that is to tell me what I can and cannot do, or should and should not do. This "King of Brown Piles" as I like to refer to him as because of the piles of bull he spreads around and because I think it a cute little play on his name, gets under my skin like no other. I don’t mean to disrespect this board, but come on here guys. This Kingsley fellow is the disease that will ruin what we hold dear. His liberal-socialist views are the death of our sport. If you want to bash my harsh words then do so, but please stand up to his ridiculous views with some passion.

It seems a dark side of human nature that whenever people in any number are enjoying themselves, others look for fault or why the activity is somehow negative. I think it amounts to "fun envy" at best, and at worst, vindictive personal rights seizure/infringement.
The Mojave National Preserve is such an example IMO. A bazillion miles of nothing in the middle of nowhere. Dirt bikers found it their playground. The most desolate land in the country, used for nothing. The entire dirt bike industry was based on this area in large part. It was huge. Others just couldn't stand to see this group of people having fun. 'No, it can't be allowed to continue. Rats and turtles are being squashed to extinction from the planet.' Well they made it a "preserve" that no one visits. Now, it's back to the rats and snakes. The entire dirt bike industry all but completely collapsed. Then it was discovered that the dirt bike tracks collect water and promote vegetation groth that otherwise wouldn't occur as prevalently. The largest land grab since Japan took China. Meanwhile, Ms. Feinstein's mansion sits on prime habitat for gerbals or some such vermin. She should donate it to the state for a "preserve". %#*@ Feinstein's "forest".

Similar issues occur in this area. A couple of years ago, some lakeshore trophy home owners were complaining about the noise and the hunters shooting in the direction of the homes in one of the numerous bays. The Fish and Game sided with the hunters, saying they had a legal right to hunt where they were hunting, and that as long as they were following the laws, there was no action to be taken. They were a safe distance from the homes, so as not to pepper any.
Along with this article in the paper, was an article about some guy that modified a shotgun to reduce the noise. I don't remember all the particulars, but he had lengthened the barrel to some ridiculous length (over 40") and had performed some other mods. He claimed it significantly reduced the loudness of the blast. This was his go to gun when hunting around some of these trophy homes.

I'm not disadvantaged when I'm carrying my popgun 20 gauge, for ----'s sake. You've got me swearing again but those magnums deserve the same space as noisy car and motorcycle mufflers---in the dumpster.
I think a 20 should be banned for everyone but wOmen and children.

There is of course a "Large" difference between poaching game out of season & using an efficent tool for it's legal taking. Whether "Locals" or "Imports" I still think the problem is the "Changed" attitude of the people involved, not the guns themselves. PS; I don't personally shoot a magnum & for that matter not even maximum loads from a standard length shell. The game I hunt is quite well handled by an ounce of shot. I have though shot as much as 2oz from a 3½" 10ga mag. On that occasion a "Popgun" would have been useless.

One of the worst aspects of society today is everyone's eagerness to impose his views on everyone else - anti-hunting, anti-gun, now anti-magnum. If the resource is threatened, the decision should be based on science, not prejudice.
I personally don't shoot magnums, don't even like the idea. If someone comes up with hard data proving magnums endanger the waterfowl resource, I'd be glad to work for a magnum ban. Until then, I'll stand with all gunners in defense of our rights.

Most data has two sides and can be manipulated to favor either side. Guns have been banned without any data. Look at the 8 gauge.
