Action polishing is about 30% technique and 70% patience. The reason all the Guild members have gray hair is that you have to be senile to have the required patience...

As a matter of fact Trinidad does offer a class in metal finishing. The instructor is Chuck Grace, and he is one of the best. It is one of the classes I would take if I could spend the summer out there.

Best to all,

Well I'v been accused of being one directional when it comes to guns and I do have grey hair. The few firearms that I did the polishing on actually did'nt have any finish problems. But if you knew where to look there'd be a pit or two that somehow escaped me.
I got the gew88 cation cheap and at the present that's what I have been working with. All by hand useing varyious styles of stones. Since these rifles were stored under less than ideal conditions hot, humid and sometimes wet you can draw your own conclusions as to what they looked like. Out of 6 bbld actions only one receiver was suitable for refinish. Hopefully when I get done sanding, filing, stoning I'll have a nice steyr 1894 action. I will have to bead blast the trigger guard assembly as there are some dings that if I were to remove would not leave much metal due to their depth. My polishing equipment consists of one 3400 3/4hp motor and a assortment of floppy wheels.Being retired and on a budget leaves little for such things. And maybe that's a good thing. Thanks for the tips and info. Its much appreciated. Frank
