Bought my first 40X in '69 or '70 IIRC, one of the special 40XB-BR models made to just barely meet the LV weight break. Mighty fine shooter indeed with 60-gr bullets. Also helped to build a custom 40X 22LR repeater using a Ruger 10/22 rotary magazine, a friend still has it. One of my 'benchmark' test rifles is a 40X custom 22LR sporter belonging to another friend, he lets me borrow it for use as a benchmark check on the shooter's (my) performance on testing day. The accuracy levels of the rifles are much appreciated by me but they're still mass-produced and it shows.

Would have been relatively easy to incorporate a simple 1-piece steel milled TG resembling the Mauser RF sporter or Winchester 52 stamped ones, using a Remington-marked magazine of course. Instead of the cheap-looking garbage they did use. What a waste!

For those prices I can get a bespoke custom from my choice of fine makers and still have plenty left over for LOTS better engraving. But it's their money.
Regards, Joe
