At one time '17 Colts were all over the place in Latin America, as were 1917 "Enfields". They must have been part of some 1940s or '50s foriegn aid package. How small people managed those two jumbo-sized irons is beyond me. But necessity IS the mother....as we used to say in teen baseball "TWO hands for beginners."

just looked at nib s&w performance center schofield in .45s&w. it's first rate modern rendition of very unique firearm. not many have been made and only italian stuff will now be produced. next week i will add it to my two freedom arms 83s. ps. did jessie james own an original one?

Yes he did and preferred it over all others for its ease in reloading. His brother liked the 1875 Remington as he used the 1858 Remingon Beals in the War.

For best leather you might try Montana instead of Texas. Contact Rick Bachman of Old West Reproductions. I have a Texas holster too but prefer the Montana product. With kind regards, Jani

So, when the "Schofield Kid" character in "The Unforgiven" says he wants to be called so "because my gun is Schofield Smith&Wesson", do the writers imply he's a Jessie James fan/wannabe?

Is Smith & Wesson dropping their Schofield model?? You figure with the Cowboy Action Shooting and its popularity that would be one of Smith & Wesson’s best sellers.

not sure about character in the movie i want one because it's part of old western lore and the fact that jesse james had one does not hurt. it's more unique then the ubiquitous colt single action army type weapons. the quality of the gun i'm looking at is very high i do wish the wooden box it comes with was great deal smaller.
