Thanks to all for the encouragement and caveats. I've got the Gun Digest issued book of shotgun disassembly which mentions the barrel latch trip in step 24. I remember two gentlemen (one of whom sent me a dimensioned sketch of a Fox rotary bolt trip) who've "been there and done that" and know that experience is recognizing a misteak when you are just about to make it again. I was surprised to find that removing the sear axle and sears is NOT necessary. As for the screws, I had to keep track on a Manufrance Ideal I opened up a few months back so I'll probably remember here despite lack of engraving. I'll go slow and see what can be accomplished by a good soak in a can of gas. I could run back to the shop and beg for an adjustment from the consignor but doubt I'd get much satisfaction as representations of condition on consignment guns are conspicuously absent.
