Looks good! That pad looks pretty good on that old gal, too! Good way to celebrate the 4th.

Agreed, but a Stevens 311 will get the job done for a lot less than that, if that's what you're after.

Everyone that fools with SxS's knows it more than just about getting the job done.

Would have been a good celebration except that the gun doubled when I pulled the back trigger first on the outgoer station 1 double. Touchy sear in the right barrel I guess as it didn't double precisely, more of a bam, bam. I don't tempt fate with ADs so went straight to the truck with it and got out the Citori and different shells. So I will be going inside for at least a cleaning and a look at the sear noses and hammer notches. I assume I'll get away with using a procedure similar to stock removal on a Fox? Certainly don't want to go deeper than I have to as heard that Parkers are Goldbergian and have a lot of bits.

Parkers do have too much stuff in them. Be careful in there. You might be surprised by what a simple, but thorough cleaning rewards you with, however.
If it's been worked on by a civilian, all bets are off.
Good luck.

Jack, Parkers are one of the easiest doubles to disassemble, you don't have to fight the mainsprings or have to grind any peened over screws, there is a trick to removing the hammers and mainsprings, if you need help there email me and I will walk you through it. Be sure your screwdrivers fit the screws and you will be OK. You will probably be amazed at the amount of crud inside the action.

That's only because I posted first without the quote, then couldn't figure out how to add the quote in the edit. Didn't intend to mis-quote. And you can quote me.

Thanks to all for the encouragement and caveats. I've got the Gun Digest issued book of shotgun disassembly which mentions the barrel latch trip in step 24. I remember two gentlemen (one of whom sent me a dimensioned sketch of a Fox rotary bolt trip) who've "been there and done that" and know that experience is recognizing a misteak when you are just about to make it again. I was surprised to find that removing the sear axle and sears is NOT necessary. As for the screws, I had to keep track on a Manufrance Ideal I opened up a few months back so I'll probably remember here despite lack of engraving. I'll go slow and see what can be accomplished by a good soak in a can of gas. I could run back to the shop and beg for an adjustment from the consignor but doubt I'd get much satisfaction as representations of condition on consignment guns are conspicuously absent.

Don't worry about it, F2F. There are adepts on here who can remember every word they and everyone else ever said and where they put a rusty, bent safety pin 30 yrs. ago. Quotation is a way to select for profundity, memorable pithiness, and unfortunately, removal of context, (and possibly inanity in the case of what's rightly attributed to me). Neither you or Joe is the worst. At present THIS Parker isn't capable of getting any job done and if I had a "job" for it, I'd take another gun, so it's pretty much a matter of nostalgia and tinkering. I do like some things about it--the 1 5/8 X 2 1/2" comb hgt. and the way it swings with 30" barrels.
