Hope all had a great hunting season. I'd like to know more about the doublegun hunters in this BBS and the dogs they hunt with. Here's the questions? What game do you hunt? Favorite gun? and I'm most curious as to your dog of choice. Breed, dogs name, what makes him/her special to your hunting style. Brag away. Please don't make this a dog fight as I've seen occur in another forum.

My situation is this: Live in Northern Michigan. Grouse,woodcock[LC/20] waterfowl[Fox SW/12], pheasants[out west]Greener/16. Up to this point, my brother and I always hunt with his 3 Goldens[grandmother,Chitna-mother,Caribou-daughter,Parker]Great trio, close working, good retrieve. This fall I bought two Pointing labs and am overjoyed with these pups. Older one[now five months]"Shooter", other 9wk old, "Bullet". Both yellow. Randy

BTW, Chuck, How did the season go with you and "Jasmine"?

Jas and I did very well this first season. She's a chocolate Lab 46 lbs this morning on the vet's scale. She started out a little cautious about the hills (probably never saw a steep hill in Illinois where she came from) and didn't seem to know she was supposed to look for birds. Then I got her in some good coveys and their ground roosts and she started to come around. Now she's a real tiger on finding them and running down cripples and downed birds. We've been out about 15 days total this year and she's seen probably well over a hundred flushes. Unfortunately, she's recovering from a shoulder injury and may not make it out again before the end of the season. The vet is optimistic it will be fine with rest.

I went to SD for wild phez for 5 days at the openner. All of my hunting since has been for valley quail. The quail population was way down from last year, but thru perserverance and sore muscles, we've been fairly successful most times out.

I hunted my new Fulton and really liked it but it needs chokes openned. My favorite choice of my guns this season was the Browning Super 20g with the 26 1/2" bbls with IC/M. I haven't tried the 28 bbls.

Call name- Brody
AKC Name- Storms Renaissance Man

5 years old, helluva dog. He could be so much more with a better owner and trainer, but we have fun. He is my best bud and I miss him like hell in college. He is a goofball in the house but is really one hell of a hunter. Main hunting gun is a Fox SW 16.

Three Labs, and waterfowl was(still) the game.
Will lock the place up at the end of the month.
Used a AH Fox AE 12g, and a Sterlingworth 12g., both Philly guns.
Hunted some late season doves with the F. Beesley 12b., while the dogs played in the water.
It was a fun year for all!

I hunt over field bred springer spaniels, early season ruffed grouse in northern MN, then pheasants in MN and SD from opener to end of season. I like small springers - the 5 we've had have all been between 30-35 lbs.

We have 3 in the family now - Abby, Gypsy, and Zuni. Abby was an outstanding dog until she suddenly went blind a year ago at 8 years old. Gypsy is now 7 and a relative plodder for a field bred ESS. Zuni came to us last spring as a 6 month old started pup and is a real live wire, lots of fun, all I can handle at age 54. I'm glad there were lots of birds to find this year - she learned a lot and had a fine first season.

Mostly carry a 16 ga. Win. M-21 for pheasants, but sometimes a 12 ga. Win. M-23 European, and for grouse a 20 ga. BSS Sporter or 28 ga. Parker Repro.

I hunt Quail in south TX. with Katie an English Cocker.
Registered name Sister Mary Katherine.
Gun is an L.C. Smith 20ga with 28 in. Barrels
Katie is a natural. I think she has taught me a lot more that she has learned. She is full of energy and is ready all the time to go. Kate will be 7 this year so her seasons are numbered but the memories are there.
Jessie (English Cocker) is a raw exposed nerve. The hunt light never came on but a tennis ball doesn't have a chance.
