You are thinking of the Model 75 which is a target rifle, but was also made as a high grade sporter.

I'm not thinking of the Model 75 or the Model 52 either. While I agree Winchester never marketed the Model 72 as a target rifle plenty of them saw yeomans duty as entry level rifles for that purpose. It was a lot less expensive than either of the traditional Winchester target rifles and very accurate in it's own right. The person I got mine from said it was used for that purpose and it's clear looking at the condition it never spent much time banging around in the woods. However we stray from the point of this thread and that's the cost and availability today for "throwaway" original factory boxes.
