My first 16ga was a Baker and it had 2&9/16" chambers. I made a gauge(on the Baker demensions) to check other guns I came across for their length and the first I found was a 16ga Fulton. My gauge showed it even had a shorter chamber than the Baker, but it was actually the chamber diameter and the taper not the length. The Fulton was 2&3/4". Odds are very strong that the Fulton's chambers have been lengthened if it measured 2 3/4". Hunter Arms 16's were 2 9/16" until about 1940. They were one of the last American makers (if not THE last) to go to 2 3/4" as the standard in 16ga guns.

Mr. Wood: I would not dare mess with one of Uncle Dans creations! The issue is with the german Gun. As I said, I have been shooting RST's in it, no problem. I am going to have the chambers and forcing cones messed with so I can shoot my handloads. Or Amarillo Mikes, when he aint looking! Skeetx, I am about to take you up on your offer...

Chuck the problem the German gun has is not chamber length but chamber diameter. The German 16s just tend to have small diameter chambers.
Take some new MagTech brass shells and drop them in the German gun. They will fit just fine. Mark those for the gun and reload them and then fire them only in that gun.
You can lengthen those chambers to 3-1/2" and you will have the same problem.

loaded 3.5" 12ga shell would drop right in into 2&3/4"chambers of my ole BSS. i was not dumb enough to pull the trigger.
too bad your gun is not 12ga as you could use winchester extra light target loads no problemo.

Well, for about the third time, I'll repeat myself...It shoots RST's just fine, I am NOT worried about what to shoot in it. I was just curious as to what seems to be a strange chamber situation. I think Lagopus explanation makes the most sense, sharp forcing cones...Or as Mike says, very tight chambers...

Homelessj0e, and Dick Cheney are also invited. I admire Dick Cheney, he had a beautiful 28 gauge gun and I will not shoot at him or his reputation. He can shoot with me any day.
Anyone else out there want to come to Amarillo and shoot? There is no smog here, but the wind might be blowing. I do not shoot skeet much during hunting season, but you are welcome to come shoot skeet or trap with me at the other times of the year.
