There is no proof of this claim. Against it, it uses the service training rifle stock with finger groove forend instead of the NRA Sporter style stock which the sophisticated guys at the Armory used on their Hornets. Dozens, perhaps hundreds, of .22 Springfields were converted by gunsmiths around the country to Hornet and this may be one. At the beginning, the Armory guns were converted from rimfire. Then, unfinished bolts were taken off the production line and made originally as centerfire. A CF bolt in a Hornet is good evidence that it was made for the Armory experimenters.
