MacIntosh said any Citori or BSS made after 1977 can handle steel shot; but no tighter than mod. Ofcourse, that is when Miroku started making the Browning guns.

FWIW, Degel over on Shotgunworld said he had shot many steel loads out of his Daly 500 choked ic/mod. If it were me though, I would have the bores and muzzles measured to make sure it was a true ic/mod because, from experience, I know the 500 shoots tighter than marked. I also wouldn't shoot steel over 1350 fps. and no larger than #3.
One 500 I had measured SK2 and IM; it was marked ic/mod.

Patriot, I believe the BSS was in production for a few years prior to 1977. I think that's about right for the Citori, however.

Just picked my Daly 500 20 ga. at the post office.Boy is it nice.Can't wait to shoot it later today. Because I am a bit of a hoarder, I want to get some spare parts that I may or may not ever need.( I think the having gives peace of mind) What parts do you guys think it would be a good idea to have spares of?? AND where would a guy get them. New to this SXS thing and need some suggestions Thanks

There is a gunsmith in AZ who has a large cache of Miroku parts. Don't remember his name, but go to GunBroker and do a search for Miroku parts and he will come up. He should be able to tell you what (if anything) you might need and can probably supply it.

You are correct Larry, 1971-88 for the BSS.

Degnarble, I just love that low luster deep blue they have. You have a gun that will last a lifetime.

For one thing, they have massive hingh pins; almost .400; average pin is about .360. Only one I know of that is bigger is the Beretta 626 SXS; .440.

I don't think Wisner's lists any parts for Miroku or Miroku/Daly SxS guns. Looks like O/U and auto only.

I checked Wisner's an you are right, nothing listed for SXS.My major problem is that I am up here in CANADA and I don't know what items cannot be shipped out of the U.S. I heard that the restrictions were softened a little but I don't know how soft or what is still taboo. Can anyone enlighten?? Thanks again

no spare parts are needed but keep silicone cloth handy as these early mirokus take to rust like ducks take to water. you might need to change firing pins after twenty thousand rounds or so.

The only other parts you might want to search for would be mainsprings. Pretty sure they were of the leaf variety on the Daly sxs, changed to coil on the BSS. But to tell the truth, most of the spring breakage I've heard of is with the Miroku-made Daly OU's, not the sxs. Of course there are WAY more OU's out there.
