A rifle I recently acquired, supposed to be 8x60 but really need to make a chamber cast to be sure. Very nice workmanship on a small ring 98 with a lot of engraving, any one on interpreting the legend on the rib? Anyone know anything about the maker, I would guess it was made in the 1920 to 39 era. Michael, I am not too sure either, but I think it is

Dolf Hafner Hofbuch?enmacher Ca??el

a little research is that buchsenmacher translates as riflemaker, the hof translates as court. I have tried a lot of different combinations for ca??el which I believe is a location such as a town but nothing comes up on Google maps in Germany.

That is a nice rifle. Do you have pictures of the proofs on the barrel underside?

There was a gunmaking family in Kassel (Cassel until 1926) Germany. I don't see a Dolf but they were active at least until 1910. Are there any proof or other marks on the underside of the barrel or action?

I have not had it apart yet, but when I make a chamber cast will check for proof marks.
