Hi Jeff,

My experience -not very vast- was that when the ringing started my doctor
(who is also my sister-in-law) had me have an audiometry. After the test and
because of the stimulation with different frequencies, the ringing had all but
disappeared but it came back after a while. That is why I recorded some of
the frequencies and am hearing them in my iPod.

The ones I now have are similar to the sound of the sea, or putting a seashell
to your ear. I believe that higher frequencies more akin to the actual ringing
would help more, but I have to experiment. Will report back.

JC

Years ago my audiologist recommended cutting out aspirin and caffeine to lower the ringing and I believe it helped somewhat.

I find that listening to a CD of Baroque music helps me to get to sleep. Try something with a constant volume, no crescendos...

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

I thought the ringing was caused by someone talking about you.

JC, my operations were a stapedectomy, to fix hearing loss due to calcium build-up in the inner ear. Helped for a while, but I'll eventually be back on hearing aids(at least now I have an excuse when I dont want to hear the boss woman). Audiologist said the ringing will never go away.

I make sure the kids and grandkids dont make the same mistakes I did.

As bad as my tinnitus is, I'll gladly keep it if the only way for it to go away is quit with my coffee. A good cup of smokin' hot joe is one of the joys of life. I like mine just like it comes out of the pot----black, strong and the hotter the better! grin grin

May God bless America and those who defend her.

I used to love to hear those D-7 Cats fire up early in the morning around our valley. You could hear that distinctive sound for miles. But it wasn't a good ideas to be sitting behind one of those unmuffled stacks. Been ringing for years!

Alarm clocks in both ears full time, occasionally English sparrows chirping. A lot of my hearing damage was due to sitting on tractors for days on the farm.
We used to shoot 303 target rifles on the local Army ranges, no hearing protection, like smoking, we did not realise it hurt you.
One of our club members went to his doctor for help as the ringing in his ears sometimes made him dizzy
The doc's advice, quit shooting! This was in about 1964, in England.

Part of the treatment includes half a milligram of Klonopin (Clonazepam) that has had a good effect on lowering
the volume of the ringing. Two birds with one stone, considering I have been having trouble sleeping.

Have yet to record high frequency sounds to see how the masking works.

I have been a bass player for 48 years. Playing with ear buds is out of the question as it really hinders my performance. Having a snare drum go off in your ear for 3 hrs a night takes it's toll and I have had ringing in my ears for many years. The line from a Bob Segar song comes to mind...

"Later in the evening
As you lie awake in bed
With the echoes from the amplifiers
Ringin' in your head
You smoke the day's last cigarette,
Rememberin' what she said "

However, every time I shoot I use cans or foam, even if it's just a .22. Ringing is one thing, deaf is another. I still want to hear my grandkids sweet voices.
