This safety is not seen very often...

This is the only gun made by the Whitney Safety Firearms Co. Vorisek estimates they made about 1,100 of these guns during a 3 year period.. They were available in grades 1-3. In addition there were higher custom grades. The guns were made in 10, 12 and 16. While the factory was located in Florence, MA for some strange reason the company was incorporated in Maine.

Pete, they are interesting guns. I have seen them with and without the little "catch" at the end of the squeeze lever. Also have seen one, a basket case, in very high quality with 100% engraving coverage. Here is one , probably a mid grade, that has nice Damascus barrels.

There have been a couple of articles on these shotguns in The Gun Report. The first one I know of was by Dr. Wm. Paul Smith in the April 1967 issue.

I have three of these. One of them is a higher grade that needs a little internal work. I attempted to remove the receiver from the wood but stopped when something inside seemed to keep it together. Any suggestions?

DT, here's a view of the insides of the first guns without the "safety keeper". Might help.
