I saw a lot of pronghorn antilope on the areas next to the roads in OK when I used to drive from KC to Roswell via Santa Fe.
Good luck

I was stationed there from '91-'95. I worked with a guy from the panhandle. We hunted quail, pheasant, turkey and deer. Without knowing him, it was pretty hard to get access. However, if you can't get access, you are 3.5-4.5 hrs from public hunting areas in KS.

Welcome to Oklahoma!! Where the wind comes sweeping down the plains!! In fact it swept away the rifle range, pistol bays and assorted out buildings at my club (Oil Capitol R&GC at Tulsa) last week. Just an F2 they think. The shotgun facilities are still intact.

Don't let that worry you, the early warning systems are pretty top notch.

Lots of gunning opportunities around the state as already noted.

Here are links to our state Sporting Clays association and Trap and Skeet associations.

Silver Leaf in Guthrie is not too far from Norman
and Quail Ridge and Twin Lakes in Shawnee are not too far either.

Gene Sears in El Reno caters to the target crowd and the state trap shoot is held in El Reno also.

Oklahoma City Gun Club has most rifle disciplines available.

Best of luck on your move to the Sooner State..

Berrien--

I've lived many places, but grew up in Oklahoma and went to OU as an undergraduate. I don't think you'll find friendlier people anywhere. I still miss it.

Unlike Texas, Oklahoma hasn't been entirely leased up by groups of hunters and it's still possible to find places to hunt by just asking.

You might check with the Sportsmen's Club at 39th Avenue and Portland in OKC (AKA, The CITY). It's primarily a dinner, tennis and swimming pool club (the summers are long and hot), but they lease 1000's of acres (or used to) for members to hunt. Initiation and dues are very reasonable.

When I was in college, we used to hunt ducks south of Norman, near Purcell, in the river bottom.

Nice double shotguns are scarce, but there are the Tulsa gun shows and Gene Sears in El Reno that other readers mentioned. Mashburn's in OKC would get a nice double every once in a while. I don't know of any good gun shops in Norman.

I won't touch on the culinary delights except to say OK is the chicken-fried steak and fried catfish capital of the world and the corporate headquarters of Sonic Drive-Ins (the frito chili pie).

Hope you enjoy your stay in the Sooner State.
