I have a 1950 model Mannlicher-Schoennauer with a Griffin and Howe sidemounted Lyman Alaskan. When I restock it, I'd like to eliminate the safety that blocks the trigger if I can locate a lever that lets the bolt shroud saftey clear the scope. Did anyone once offer such a lever? Any info or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Although the outfit is in Austria, you may try http://www.eschoder.com/english/english-index.htm

they show a part A0390074 "Sicherungshebel" or wing safety, which is a replacement part equivalent to the existing safety.

Ask them what they could do to make it clear the scope.

I have dealt with them in the past and though a bit pricey, they come through with what they say they will.

Try Peter Moucka at (262) 242-9767. He has many Mannlicher parts.

Thanks for this suggestion. I've about decided there were no pre- fashioned levers for this rifle. From the way they're made it may not be too hard to alter one . I'll give more study.

I think you're correct, I've long been a fan of the M-S and have never heard of one. I suggest you or your smith fab a new one rather than FUBAR the original right away, I've done it for Mausers & Springfields and it's not difficult.
Regards, Joe

BTW, doesn't your Model 1950 also have a side lever safety?

Curosity got me. Why are you restocking this rifle? I think more than just the lever is involved. Check this guy out he lists parts,

Joel, Tom: The side safetyis a pretty sorry design and not really safe IMO. As for the stock, it was broken into six or seven pieces before I owned the rifle. It appears possible to cot off the lever portion of the bolt shroud safety and replace it with a piece that will clear the scope.
