A decent original stock will cost you. If you watch ebay and gunbroker, mutilated service M1903A1 pistol grip stocks show up from time to time with forends cut off. These are not bad as is and can be bulked up nicely with wood slabbed on. More often you will find Bishop and/or Fajen and/or Herter sporter stocks removed from rifles being restored to military configuration. These can be inexpensive but on some of them the inletting is iffy.
