My experience has been that Turkeys are not that hard to kill within 40 yards. The idea that you need 1.5 oz and an extra full "turkey choke" is BS. My blind is on my own property and the edges of the woods they come from most often are 35-40 yards. I normally take them right there as do my guests. I've never had one run away after the shot.
I didn't weigh him but he was heavy. Slings are great when you have a heavy bird, a few decoys and a chair to carry. Not exactly grouse hunting.
