My solution for similar 20 ga needs in a Parker VHE, which I like very well, is single set of barrels choked skeet/modified. It is perfect for grouse and quail, Hungarian partridge in Idaho and worked well for Pheasant in SD with one oz loads. I have killed crossing desert quail out at 45 and 50 yds with the modified barrel and #7 shot and Pheasants to 40yds. Even on pheasant hunts most shots are closer than that. Those two chokings are enough spread to let you select what is required, assuming you have double triggers. Hunting with a skeleton butt plate is a pain. You will be shortly be putting a removeable leather cover over it anyway so you can set it down once in a while. I know I did on a Parker Repro before selling it.
