And since many of them didn't carry any choke markings to start with, who's to know if they've been altered, assuming the barrel smith does a good job?
The man who has it done. That's who. Or doesn't that matter? That statement can be taken as suggesting deception, Larry. I don't want to think you meant it that way. I want to believe you would tell any prospective buyer that the chokes had been altered, even without them asking.

My point, Stan, is somewhat the opposite: If I'm the buyer and the job's been well-done, then I don't really know whether they've been opened. And because, for my purposes, I'm usually looking for guns with chokes on the open end of the scale, I will likely consider it a plus if they've been opened from F/F, or even M/F. Saves me the cost of having it done.
If I sell a gun, I always tell prospective buyers what the chokes are, as measured with my gauge, and whether I had them opened.
