Tudurgs, the early Miller works the same as the 3200; selecting the barrel takes it off safe. The only difference is that, on the Miller, you must either move the selector or look at it to confirm you are really on safe. For me, that is about two hundred or more times a day on a hunt. The 3200 safety/selector can be checked by feel. In my opinion, the early Miller is a pain in the butt for a hunter. It is at its best in the pigeon ring or the clay target course. The second generation Miller was obviously thought of as an improvement by Elmer Miller.

I totally disaggree. For me the selector in the safety slide on the earlier Millers and the later Howland trigger on the Ithaca NIDs is the only one I stand a chance of being able to actually select the barrel with in a hunting situation.

Murph,
I've never used a safety for clay games on an sxs or o/u. I simply break the gun. I suspect most people do the same. I really don't see a use for a safety of any type for a clays gun except for a mechanical problem where a loaded shell is in the chamber and the gun can't be openned for whatever reason. I've never shot at a pigeon ring, but I suspect most shooters would simply break the gun as well.

I have an Ithaca 20g with the Miller design/Ithaca produced SST that is being restored by Gunter. It has the safety/integral barrel selector switch. I should have it back in time for next season. I certainly plan to try it on some quail and pheasant. I'll see how well I can use the selector on the flush.

I'm thinking the best selector would be mind controlled once we get the laser rangefinder implants.
