I am not as optomistic for this season. I have no doubt there will be plenty of quail inside the city limits of Scottsdale where they have been subsisting on the golf courses and lawns. However, my son took a 27 mile hike through the Superstition Mountains a couple weeks back, starting at first light. He neither saw nor heard a single quail all day. The areas he went through normally have no hunting pressure and plenty of birds. The wild birds I fear are really reduced to very low numbers so it is probably going to take a couple years with adequate rain to get back good bird numbers again. The last 10 years have really been hard on the Gambel quail. Mearns have done better. Scalies are really scarce.
