Nice gun if you're into thumb latches. Ted do you get a commission if it sells ? Heck I almost bought it till you said it was 'a bit out of period'.
Ted I'm just currious why you started this thread out like you were going to purchase the gun....then later it seems you never intented to purchase it.
Just currious Ted...
(remember me I'm the guy your peasant Missouri buddy drug into your little thread). jOe

Let him go, Ted, if for no other reason than spelling.

It is far more costly to fabricate a damascus barrel blank with sufficient breech thickness to allow machining out a chopper than to fabricate one suitable to dovetailed lump construction. On the other hand, it is only slightly more costly to cast/forge a fluid steel blank with the chopper on it. Note, the chopper must be integral with the rest of the barrel and not just welded on. There was a period of some 50 years, say 1880 to 1930, when various shops and craftsmen within said shops were skilled in both methods. They, no doubt, used which method was ordered, more profitable, easier, or most comfortable.
I'm the only person I know of who has actually had a dovetail lump failure (OE cold joint). I was quite amazed at what a small spot of braze had lasted since 1921. Repaired, reproofed, back in service, no issue.

The wood looks lovely, unlike that impertinent "woodflage" you find on expensive Italian guns. Great, and it doesn't look like a slab of South African marble.

jOe, Just curious-When a guy types "I don't need it", like I did, at the very start, do you think that means "I want to buy it"? Or, that when a guy types "Not that I have a stake in it" that I get a commision, or had the gun on consignment?
I think you should go find the guidance counselor from your high school (he'll be at the bar) and ask him about this.
Or, perhaps it is time to have a nice conversation with a doctor about these things. I'm thinking you are "a bit" delusional at this point, and I'd like to see you get some help with it.
Really. Best, Ted

Thanks for the counseling Ted. I'm not the guy with delusions. I'm sorry...I misread your post I was sure you were going to buy it when you made this statement. I went strictly by the ad copy, Miller. Don't know for sure 'till its in my grubby little hands.
The 2 3/4 thing wouldn't bother me a bit, as the 2 1/2" ammo I would feed it would be fine. 'Bubba won't buy it, as it needs camo tape on the stock to complete it, and Darlene has her eye on a new surround sound...
That stock is simply phenomenal...not a hammer guy myself, but the neatest thing I've seen in a long, long, while. Best Ted
PS Thorny, 29" tubes, and I 'gotta believe this thing would handle as good as it looks. It is a work of art for sure Ted and probably worth the postage to just get it in your hands so you could give us your professional oppinion of it. If you need me to I could even pitch in a few bucks to help you pay for postage...even though it could mean Darlene would have to wait on her new surround sound. jOe

lOw'e...You seem to live in some 'London fOgg' when it comes to shotguns. I think your scared that one day you'll find out a Brummie made the parts for your coveted Beezley...
And your buddy Teddy...do you think owning those tWo Mossberg 500's is the reason for his delusions of grandure ('acting' like he was going to purchase the Boss) ?
It would do you and Ted good to wake up from your shotgun Guru dream worlds. jOe
Ps...I usually charge 150 bucks an hour to lay on my cOuch....but for you guys it's on the hOuse' Trailer.
