I have a Repro 28 with 28" barrels (DT, English, splinter, M/F) and an RBL 28 with 30" barrels (DT, English, splinter, M/F), and a hankerin' for an AyA. If you can still find a base RBL, it's by far the best value of the bunch and a fine looking piece. The Repro will hold its value better (probably), but a good one will be over your budget. Both are great shooters. If you need a long LOP, the nod goes to the RBL because you can get a 14-3/4" LOP as standard, even before adding a pad. Adding a pad to a Repro is a criminal offense if the Repro still has its skeleton steel butt plate. Both are available with tight chokes if that is your preference (it is mine).

Cabela's in Boise has a couple of AyA No. 2 Roundbodies in 28 ga with 29" barrels choked IC/M. One is new and one is as new. I think either could be had for right at $4K, maybe plus a hundred. Call Sean at the Gun Library and buy one so that I don't. Please. If you are thinking about an AyA boxlock like one of the 4/53 variants, I think they are wildly overpriced by most sellers. I'd go with an RBL.

You might also look at the AOC/SG (Ugartechea) from Aspen Outfitting. I have one in .410 and it is sweet. I would expect the 28 to be equally nice, and they pop up new or near new for $2500. Prices may have softened since I last looked at them. I think it's a nicer gun than the 4/53.
