Brothers in Arms: I picked this stock up today on ebay for the princely sum of $66.99 I found some of the work above average and some; the sheet aluminum grip cap for instance not! I believe it [aluminum gripcap] was a replacement for a nice one [a gripcap] as well as a nice buttplate at one time. Thought I would toss it to the wolves for opinions...what say you?

Looks like a modified military stock to me. Adding pistol grips was once common. It has more work put into it than many converted stocks I've seen.

It looks almost a lil too full in the pistol grip area to me to be a C-stock, but maybe it's just the picture. Back in the day when O3A3's were $19.99 Fajen made inletted semi finished sporter stocks by the thousands. Perhaps it's one of those?

Come on you guys, don't display your ignorance about the grand old 1903. A C stock would have two crossbolts. I see no evidence of them in the phots.

As long as we are guessing I would guess that it was a 1922 stock for a 22 rifle. Don't think that C stocks had the finger grooves on the fore end.

James you may have spotted it. That very neat cut for a Lyman 48 looks like a 1922 all right.
