OK, not a double gun and hopefully it won't go BO WOOOOP when i finally plug it in but.............

I need a cheap source for a couple "obsolete" intgrated-chips used in older (ca 1999) audio equipment.

Here's the rub; I have a Marantz audio receiver that uses a set of ICs for the power amps (SAP16N & SAP16P(?) that needs to have a burned out pair replaced. These chips were used in various maker's audio amps at the time.

These are available at some UK electronic supply houses for about $4 each BUT they charge almost $100 to ship any to the US &/or only want to sell mass quanitities with equally absurd shipping.

I can find a few in the US but they would cost almost as much as the UK shipping route.

Does anyone have any good sources for small quantities of cheap older chips in North America?

...or is anyone coming over from the UK in near future and willing to buy a pair there (UK/Eu shipping for the one site is only a few euros since they would fit in a small envelope) and mail them to me once in the US?

Thanks for your induldgence,
Lee

Thanks Skeetz.

They actually have them (SAP16N & P) for $25 each.

This is more what I was hoping to find, or arrange similar to RAPID electronis in UK for about $4 each without the absurd international shipping.

also a secondary question if anyone knows or can refer me to a grade-school answer; I believe the original Marantz chips were SAP16NY & SAP16PY pairs. I see a ebay used set of SAP16PO & SAP16PO chips cheap.

Are these O suffix chips actually the same (mix & match pairs) as the Y suffux ones. My amp has 12 "Y" chips (6 pairs) and I would really like to just replace the bad couple instead of buying a set.

Try calling Howard Bardach at The Audio Specialist in Los Angeles. He has repaired a couple of ancient Marantz (1970's) units for me. If he can't sell you the parts, he can probably tell you where to buy them.

Thanks,

I will file that one for reference.

I'd still like to know if anyone has a way to buy a few odd chips/etc from people in the UK, like Rapid (as linked above), and avoid the absurd shipping charges to the US? They appear to be designed to discourage non EU sales since those would get a flat rate of a couple euros for small packages/envelopes.

In mean time, I found a bunch of canibalized and checked chips from a local ebay seller cheap (10 @ $18 with free shipping). They appear to be a mix of O & Y series chips that came off the same amp and according to the dealer (an electronics repair person) they are interchangable. Obviously, if anyone knows otherwise or can confirm that it would be a good thing.

Thanks again,
Lee
