Thank you all very much. Some pretty good info and ideas. I will let you know how this progresses.

A Dave Wolf stock would be cost prohibitive for a gun of this value. However, a Show Me Gunstocks or Wenig stock may be more reasonable. How long is the remaining stock? Would a 1" recoil pad bring it out to a good fit? Anything would be preferred to a $2000 restock.

If memory serves me right, it is around 12 to 13 inches to the end of the rubber pad he put on. This is the same guy who rubbed (or used a chemical) half the case color off. I think if I can get it at the right price then I can use some wood I bought a couple of years ago and have Wenig or some other company copy and fit it. I can then finish the rest. Chuck's idea might work also if I think I can hide the joint well enough. I am pretty good with woodworking but I got rid of most of my equipment and tools.

Builder,
The glue joint line can be placed in the checkering for the most part and will hide the line.

That makes sense. I thought the checkering would be a short distance away from the crease formed in that area.

What makes you think he purposely rubbed off the case color? My repro is missing a bunch of color due to the lousy process they used...it seems to rub off without much use.

Hi Greg,

Only because he said so. Who knows if he is telling me the truth and I would not be surprised if he does not have a grandson (who he supposedly cut the stock down for)

Builder: What's the price on this item? May not be worth the effort to make the stock right if the initial cost is too high.

Personally, I think the Repro case colors are not all that attractive anyway. A Repro gun that is worn or devoid of colors would be attractive in it's own way to me. Maybe some Simi-chrome or Blue Magic polish judiciously used on the commonly handworn areas would look good.

Replacement,
That's the beauty of Doctor Travallion's butt graft. All the hard work is in the inletting. Glueing a chunk of wood on the back end while retaining the inletting saves a tremendous amount of high skill work and the "fun stuff" of shaping the butt to dims desired and refinishing. Some checkering recutting is also needed. But all said and done, it's much less work than inletting even a machined blank. A good option for the inletting challenged like me.
