Dave, The copy that is faxed or emailed is supposed to be signed. BATF rules are as Jim Legg and Italiansxs state. This was one of the things that the agent impressed on me when I received my FFL and I was primarily interested in the gunsmithing portion. Dave, don't take anybodies word on the law, go to their website and satisfy yourself. Butch

Butch,
show me the law that says you must have the FFL in your hand.It does not exist, only that they must have one. ! You can send say Remington,Kimber,S&W,Ruger a gun for repair and they will not send their FFL to you !
Butch, lots of "he said she said","look it up" that means nothing.Show me the rule.
BTW,the BATF says if your "in the business" so your brother in law does not need a FFL to repair/restock or whatever your gun as long as he is not "in the business"
and here is the rule;
"A person conducting such activities as a business is considered to be a gunsmith within the definition of a dealer. [27 CFR 178.11]"

Dave, you have your own ideas of the law and I'm not interested in a pissing contest. You do your business as you see fit as it won't affect me in the least. I have better things to do with my time. Thanks Butch

Thanks Butch In other words Butch: "I have nothing but BS to prove my post" I posted a the rule, you have ?????? Lots of bad advice by "he said, look it up" types on the internet, the rules are easy enough to look up and post as I have.No "pissing contest" Butch, just need to keep the facts to the real rules.

DAvey K, I just talked to Lauri Gulardi in the Dallas office of the BATF. 469 227 4321. She said if you would like call her, she will tell you the facts of life. If that is not good enough send me an email or PM with your address and she will give it to you in writing. Any weapon taken in for repair, refinish, or restocking has to be entered into the bound book. Do you have doubts to what I just posted and think I pulled this out of the air, call her! You called me out and now I'm calling you out. Butch

"Butchy",
I don't really care what conversation you had with Laurie in Dallas but I want to see the rule (as I have shown you !) that says your brother in law-who is not "in the business" has to have a FFL to do anything to the stock on your gun !
Entering a gun in a the bound book is indeed a requirment for a FFL licensed gunsmith who is IN THE BUSINESS.Not for the situatiuon you posted,"even your brother in law" .
Now run along now unless you can show me the rule-post it on here, not "he said she said" where the questioner-Butchy has no clue what he is asking about !!!!!!!!!

Davey K, You got called out and can't handle it. You know I didn't go to the trouble and post this without facts. I will pay for your phone call. She has heard all the brother, bro-in-law and uncle excuses for doing work without a license. So why don't you go out and play with you popgun now! Butch

"Butchy"
as usual NO FACTS,just BS ! There is NO law or regulation that someone who is NOT IN THE BUSINESS "your brother in law" has to have a FFL to work on your stock.
your "Any weapon taken in for repair, refinish, or restocking has to be entered into the bound book." is a big Duhhh! Never was in question, what was is the dumb statement "even your brother in law" (or anyone not in the business)
Now if you think there is,even if you have to call the BATF,then they should be able to tell you the rule number so you can post it.All the rest, just like the "must have a FFL in hand to ship a gun to them" (hmmm ask Remington,Ruger,Colt... if they will send you theirs?),is a lot of hot air from some bozo named Butch who cna not post the rule, and means nothing !
now go see if you can find the facts and come back with them from the BATF site, other wise STFU !

You know Davey K, You are unable to listen to people. You just puff up like an old toad and spew all over the place. You will find that I really love to visit on the net with people like you. It is so easy to get under your skin and I have been having a blast doing it. The thing is, I am right and you are too damn lazy to call Mrs. Gulardi or is it that you are afraid of what she will tell you. I'm waiting on your next post inorder to have more fun at your expense. Butch
