Agree with 2-p on pattern behaviour. Patterns, other than blown ones, are Gausian distributed. They open in a predictable fashion and they don't close down. They don't open fast and then settle down and stay at that opening. The trumpet shape is due to a greater loss of forward velocity compared to sideways velocity (plot it out). Patterns never have "even" distribution!! Holes appear when the number of pellets is insufficinet to cover the area the pattern has spread to. They are random and not really a characteristic of any given choke.
