Is the action used on a 28 ga Red Label a completely different action from than on a 20 ga or is the difference just the barrels?

The 28 ga is a full pound lighter, so I think it is a smaller action. Same design of course.

I was guessing so myself but wanted verification from someone knowledgable.

The Red Label 28 is built on a gauge-specific frame, but some internal parts may be interchangeable. Ruger strives for highly efficient manufacturing processes.

Thank you. The reason I ask is that I'm trying to get a smith to work up a O/U rifle based on a light yet strong stainless action and the Ruger seemed a good place to start the serch.

I think Butch Searcy started by adding rifle bbl sets to 20 ga Red Labels. With less than dangerous game calibers, there's no reason a 28 ga couldn't be used. 7x57R is a nice caliber for a light rifle.

I'm actually thinking .35 Rem, but then the rimless design might be a limiting factor. It'll be for hunitng the swamps and thick woods here in NE Florida.....and I'll admit it'll be partly to fill a want more than a need.... But then as we get older we are allowed to indulge aren't we?

Indulge away. How about a .38-55? I really like rimmed cartridges for break-action rifles.

I do understand that there is a real reason to use rimed rounds and the smith I've been talking to has expressed some concern about the rimless choice.
He's also a little less than excited about the use of the Red Label because of the single trigger. As it's not to be a dangerious game gun I'm not to concerned.
