Back in my miss-spent youth several gun writers used to refer to guns that they preferred for casual hiking and fishing companions as "woods-loafing" guns; mostly .22 rifles, small caliber center fires like .25-20s, and long-barreled .22 handguns. (I remember an article in an old Gun Digest on the Savage Model 24 that referred to it as the ultimate "woods-loafing" gun). Suppose there is any relationship between that expression and the German "Waldlaufer"? Certainly German-Americans were in the middle of American shooting sports for a long time....until our unfortunate disagreements with Kaiser Bill and all the anti-German propaganda that accompanied it.

Mine is a Prussian between the wars 16/16/.22 and I really like it a lot.
With CB Long ammunition it's silent and super accurate.
With #4 or #5 shot it's bloody murder.
You won't miss the money spent on getting one!

I use a drilling in 7x57R x 16G BBLs for my hunting most of the time even though my safes are full of other stuff. Drillings just do what it says on the box.

I got answer back from Mr. Gisske.
The Waldlaufer in 20/76 and .22 WMR would be 5,000 euros. I need more details before commiting...
Now I don't know if I should get the 20 ga with the .22 WMR or my dream of 28 ga with a .22lr? Or maybe both. They can fit a second set of barrels to the same action.
What do you think?

I personally incline towards a 20 ga with 3" chambers as it gives so much more versatility than the 28 ga, although I don't like shooting high power rounds.
I don't know about the rifle round, though. What I would hunt is ruffed grouse and rabbits...so taht a .22 lr would suffice.
How accurate are the two rounds the .22wmr and the .22lr?
