Pardon the interuption, brand new to this sight. If you would like me to start a new post I will, recently turning 40 y/o on 12.26.09 my wonderful wife presented me with a W.RICHARDS 8 guage single shot hammer, she aquired it thru my brother in-law who has had it for many years. I have search and found W.Richards in Liverpool. after reading these posts many of you sound well versed in this subject any help would be greatly appreciated. Interested on where this Gun was made and approximately when. I am going to attempt to post pictures of the gun and the markings. Sorry no go on pictures, I cant get a clear enough picture to post I will do my best to describe the markings. Well there are Markings on Barrel and breach of AD (on Both)and the number 4 (on both). also the letter S with a star above it (on both), now just on the Barrel there is a letter Z with a star above it and a larger size font of a letter L with what looks like a crown above that there is also a circle with the letters ELG in a triangle form with the E on top of the LG and a star below that all inside the cirle. There too is some sort of symbol near the S with a star ( located on both) hard to describe.Looks like an Anvil Hammer? This is a 2 piece gun, no separate (wooden)forearm, the only wood is the Stock, rest is metal. The barrel is 34 inches long with the first 10 inches of barrel octogon shaped twisting out smooth to the end. Different locking mechanisms I an used to the "forearm" has to the lowest one pull it to the right breaks the action, the upper one pulls to the left and releases the barrel, Also two sets of 4 digit numbers under the barrel, the one closest to the breech is (a 3 or a 5)then 525 followed by the next 4 digit number 2 inches down the barrel of 8681. There is some etching on the metals areas of the gun, etching on the screw heads and the metal plate along the right side of the stock which ends at the breech and is where the hammer is located is clearly marked W.RICHARDS
