I inherited a Fox Sterlingworth made in Philadelphia from my father a few years ago.It has 2 ivory? beads on the rib,28 inch barrels, I believe full&mod choke. The Barrels look new inside&out, How can you determine if a gun has been reblued? Also it has about 85% of the case hardening and the lever is well to the right of center. There is a couple of small marks on the forearm & a couple tiny scratches on the outside of the trigger guard. The checkering is there but feels pretty smooth to me.Im thinking that This gun was reworked but I dont know for sure.The S# is 108420. Can anyone clue me in? Thanks, Gunder

Best thing is to post some good clear pictures. That particular gun was made in 1926. An easy (but not always reliable) way to check the chokes is to use a dime. If it doesn't go into the barrel its full choke. Most SW's of that era are going to be full/mod. PS. If the lettering is crisp on the action and the barrels, most likely its original. Once again, post some photos and we will help you out. PS. If you really like Foxes get McIntosh's book. It's very useful and will teach you a lot about these guns.

The Sterlingworth checkering was flat-topped all during the Philadelphia era, so your gun may well be just the way it left the factory. I did a two-part article on the Sterlingworths in The Double Gun Journal, Volume Fifteen, Issues 3 and 4. It may answer a lot of your questions. Also try the A.H.
