The Deluxe version added over 50% to the retail price. I'm guessing there are not many out there. I've only seen a couple.

Thanks Larry. I looked on all the auctions GA and GI and didn't see another.
Maybe I'll post it as a topic. Maybe someone has one. My book says the Deluxe was USUALLY made for Westernfield. This one says on the barrels "branch of Ithaca Gun Co." and also has an Ithaca butt plate but does not have Westernfield on it.

Sorry guys-thought PeteM already put this up, which was published in The Field March 7, 1891 Vol 77:325 and did not differentiate between pattern welded and fluid steel

That is one reason why I hesitate to post it at times. I have measured many more guns and never found one with breech walls that thick. BUT, measuring them has saved me grief and perhaps a finger. It is amazing at how many have been poked at. I have a beautiful German gun with Bernard damascus. Some nimrod got in there and honed the heck out of the forcing cone. I do not consider it a safe shooter.

I think the point is to measure and look for sudden changes. Use common sense and the proper ammunition. Many of these guns can last another 100 years if properly cared.

Patriot, the "branch of Ithaca Gun Co" was either on the early guns and not the late ones, or vice versa. Walt Snyder probably knows for sure, although I checked his book and couldn't find anything there.

Thanks guys. The serial number is 516xx. I don't know if the number is in with regular Ithacas or not.
