Any help ID'ing this double would be much great. The gun has engraved toe and heel caps, DTs, 30" Damascus tubes. 12 ga. with a serial # of 5xx.

This picture of the top rib looks like whatever marks were previously there have been covered. What do you think?

Alex it would help if you posted some images of
1. The sides of the action
2. the top of the action
3. the barrel flats
4. the action flats

It appears to be a high quality gun. Jim

The gun certainly was a high original quality grade gun for a boxlock; maybe not quite a "best" grade, but still high. The heel and toe caps, the high percentage of engraving coverage, and the gold lettering on the barrel all speak of a quality gun. However, the damascus is a bit of a course and common pattern for a true "best grade gun" (usually). How is the wood? Something a bit funky about the rib and the stock has a wisp of more modern than the gun should be.

More photos?

A possible manufacturer is William Anson,77, Slaney Street , Birmingham,1877-1890. Invented the Anson fore-end catch, patent No;3791 of 1872. Prolific inventor, worked with J. Deely to perfect the Anson cocking mechanism.[Anson and Deely action resulted from their cooperation].I have seen shot guns marked W. Anson, but I have never seen a gun marked Anson and Deely, except in recognition of their joint patent.
Any gun marked "London,"is always a concern to me! I have seen several examples of fraudulent names always accompanied by the word, London,, applied to a guns of dubious origin. My concerns are hightened when there is no known record of the maker named, "Anson & Deely", ever having a London address.
The pictures show a nicely engraved gun, beware the gunmakers adage,"engraving hides the gunsmithing"!

Looks like a nice gun with a bit 'o history for the English gun buff! You might be interested in the SN - perhaps a very early gun with a low number. Could be gun #1, from the famous duo - who knows?
Sometimes there are those things about these guns, other than a day in and day out shooter.
Btw, those sling swivels make me think the gun was in Europe - no self-respecting Englishmen would be seen with 'em.

...and a Pistol-grip, Lowell! I would be looking for the dreaded Peron on the flats...
