3-in-1 and petroleum jelly looks just like RIG when mixed. particularly in an old RIG tin. An informal comparison in a guncase left in a closed automobile in summer makes me think the melting pt. of RIG is lower than that of the "whatyagot about the house" mix. Fumbling around and spilling half the RIG and finding the "jelly" still in a jelly state convinced me. I do like the "cling" of that Mobil 1 racing oil (particularly on the slide and frame rails of pistols) but half the battle on a break action is cleaning off abrasive residue and powder flakes BEFORE lubing, at which pt. almost anything and everything works.
