After a group of trap shooter at one of the local clubs began a debat on proper lubrication and most of them liked a synthetic grease I made a call to Kirk Merrington.
Kirk does a lot of work for me including stip & cleans on my best guns. I asked what he used when he lubes a gun.
He advised that a 50/50 mix of 3 in 1 oil and vaseline. that is what was used when he was at the shops in England and he has never found a better lube. For weekly shooting I use straight vaseline.
One thing that Kirk pointed out was the exposure to oils can be a long term problem and the valeline does not present that risk.
It is also VERY inexpensive. Those trap guys are paying $9 for some little tube of synthetic bike lube.
