Joe;
Mine came in a round plastic bottle from which the label has long since deteriorated, but it would appear to also be of 8oz capacity. I am almost certain I bought it some 25-30 years ago from Dixie Gun Works & it wasn't sold as "Lamp Oil", but that sure seems to be what it is. It is still about 3/4's full, the botle is about 6" tall & right now there is a solid layer on the bottom about ¼" thick. Many years ago my Mother gave me the little metal oil can which had come in her old singer trealde machine as she no longer bought oil in a manner in which she refilled the can. I had filled this can with the sperm oil for use on my guns & over a matter of some time it refused to squirt. I then noted the spout was totally clogged & there was a layer of sludge all around the bottom of the can. This little Singer can was nearling empty then, except for the sludge, so I cleaned up & quit using that oil, period.
I have heard this same trait referenced to 3-in-1 oil & had one lady tell me she could look at an old sewing machine & tell if it had been poiled with 3-in-1 because it would be all gummed up. I have used several gallons of that stuff over the past 50+ years & have never had that experience with it. I highly suspect those machines she accredits to the 3-in-1 had been oiled with a low grade sperm which had been passed off as High Grade Sewing Machine Oil. I know I would much prefer 3-in-1 to this mess anyday.
