The 222 stuff works very well for our purposes on screws. On loose crosspins, either the red 271 or there was a green "sleeve retainer" that works super.

They all have specific uses and limitations. For most general gunsmith applications the blue is the defalt. Hand removal and will cover from small to large fasteners. Red is the higher strength and requires heat for removal.
For non threaded the 609 compound is the defalt- the 620 is for high heat application.
Be very aware of what some of the variants do and are ment to do or you can get in trouble. This product is also MEK based and exposure can be deadly.
In my day job I use these products by the pint- I have seen the good and the bad.

None of the anerobic threadlockers or retaining compounds contain MEK. So, don't worry about exposure.

I just reviewed out material data safty sheets on these thredlockers and every one shows MEK,methacrylic ester and simular ingridents.
Every bottle has a warning about skin absorption as well as an inhallation warning.
This, like every bonding compound have an exposure soyes- you should be careful of exposure.

APS, I just searched the MSDS for Loctite 222,242,271 and there is no MEK on the documents. Here's an example: http://henkelconsumerinfo.com/products/h...&VKORG=3450What are you looking at that shows MEK? OB

Could it be Loc-tite primer?

We use both the consumer and the professional products- some of the pro products and variants from GE show MEK but all of them call for exposure risks.
Some of the first Loctite products were of a different composition than thwe current stuff and aparently some of the pro product is of different composition.
I did find out we use thread locker from Loctite, GE, and Permacel to name a few.
I still have some Orange that was a industrila level that I used to mount a dot scope to the muzzel of an 1187 open combat gun. That material was so strong that we drilled the barrel, coated the screws and placed them. After curing came back and cut the screw shafts in the barrel to the barrel radius. On the test screw the amount of heat to remove the screw would destroy the barrel finish and probably the barrel itself.
I still maintain that these products are best used with caution. All of them warn of exposure.

Hmmmmmmm.....Red is the stronger.........OK, that is probably why the screw on my front sight never came loose again after several years. And my machinist friend did say that Loctite is a thread locker and should be used on the threads only. So, I will have to go along with the guys who also said that. Good luck.

I have tubes of various loctites from over the yrs and virtually all either go bad or leak out before I use them completely. I use the stuff very infrequently, and then only in extremely small amounts, I don't drink it or bathe with it, as I'm sure most here also follow suit. I think if it were pure MEK it would not matter to most of us.
My understanding was that MEK was banned from consumer products.
